What’s in a name?We changed the name of the band from ‘Three Point Turn’ to ‘The Great Escape’ in the late Eighties as it felt like we had outgrown the original name with the increase from three to five members and with all the changes in personnel. Bill had originally had the idea for the new name back in the Seventies but shelved it when joining Three Point Turn as it was already a going concern. However, we were contacted several months later by a band claiming that they had been using the name before us and that people were getting us mixed up [It was interesting that we had never heard of them but that they had heard of us!]. Their letter - admittedly polite - insisted we change our name immediately so we promptly settled on The Great Escape 2 for the remainder of the band’s life. I sometimes wonder what happened to the ‘original’ Great Escape [but I don’t lose any sleep over it!]. |
